Cobisa History

 

Cobisa Corporation is a privately held independent electric power development company located in Houston, Texas, founded in 1987 by Thomas M. Knox and Thomas C. Knox.

Cobisa specializes in U.S. domestic gas-turbine electric generating projects both simple cycle and combined cycle. Cobisa has extensive experience in all aspects and phases of project origination and development including siting, permitting, power sales agreements, contract negotiations, arranging fuel supplies, financing, and construction management.

The principals of Cobisa Corporation have been involved in the successful development of six gas fired independent power projects with combined output of approximately 3,230MW and a total capitalization of approximately $2.2 billion. The gas turbine projects are located in New Mexico, Texas, Virginia, and Washington including one of the first IPPs in the country. These are:

Doswell Limited Partnership — a 663MW IPP located outside Richmond, Virginia;

Encogen One — a 255MW cogeneration project in Sweetwater, Texas

Encogen Northwest — a 160MW cogeneration project in Bellingham, Washington

Cobisa-Person Limited Partnership - a 140MW gas turbine peaking project in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
