Thomas M. Knox (1926 - 2004) co-founded Cobisa Corporation in 1987 to develop cogeneration and independent power projects. During the past 11 years he has been active in the conceptual planning and implementation of such projects with a focus on gas fired combustion turbine facilities. Some examples are:

Doswell Limited Partnership, a 663 MW combined cycle project at Doswell, Virginia. This was the first IPP in Virginia and the first project financed ($532,000,000) with fuel supply based on transportation and storage contracts and spot market gas purchases.

Cobisa-Person Limited Partnership, a 140 MW peaker project at PNM’s Person plant in Albuquerque, New Mexico (shovel above).

Cobisa-Forney Limited Partnership, a 1,789MW combined cycle merchant plant near Dallas, Texas.

Earlier Mr. Knox was with the Lummus Company, the engineering and construction subsidiary of Combustion Engineering for 21 years primarily in EPC contract sales and management of commercial activities. During the decade prior to 1986 he was responsible for business development for projects utilizing chemical process and energy technologies including coal gasification, cogeneration, refining, petrochemicals, gas processing and enhanced oil recovery. Typical annual sales volumes were $50,000,000 to $500,000,000 of installed plant cost. Single contracts reached $350,000,000 in value.

Prior to joining Lummus, Mr. Knox was with Mallinckrodt Chemical Works engaged in project management and process engineering with technologies ranging from nuclear fuel fabrication, to hydrometalurgical processing and pharmaceuticals.

Mr. Knox’s earliest work was with the Chemical Plants Division of Blaw Knox performing process design and initial operations for turnkey soybean extraction plants.

Thomas M. Knox held a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University and was a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.  Tom passed away in February of 2004.
